For me, my career is and has been only a means towards a family. Maybe a successful career isn't what you truly want? Also, careers seem to be much more mutable now than in the past (at least here in the US). Who has one job for 30 years nowadays?

I'm just not so sure anymore - I guess it's just as shallow as society acceptance.
